A Perfect 14?

I stumbled on this movie “A Perfect 14” online today.  I’m not sure what to think about it.  I love the new-found attention that plus size fashion and modelling is getting now, I feel like I’m a part of the club, but after watching the trailer I feel part cheerleader part fat basher. On the one hand, it’s fantastic to showcase women bigger than the norm as beautiful desirable beings.  On the other hand I’m looking at many of the women and thinking, they’re not that big, really,  A Perfect 14?  I wish.  Isn’t a 14 just average?   Am I a hater?  I don’t want to turn into one of those people who, because I’m bigger than a 14, acts like anything less than my size isn’t important.  I mean we’re all in this together, right?!  Who am I to say who is fat enough to represent the group?  I think my problem is that I feel like there isn’t enough of a representation of  the typical “plus size” woman.  It’s like even when plus size women are represented we’re represented by the version closest to largest example of the norm and with that comes the feeling that you’re still too big for this under served group that you belong to.  It’s a never-ending circle.

I’m still intrigued by the trailer and would love to see the film in its entirety.

What do you think?  Am I being an overly sensitive whiner?   Is there a such thing as being too small to be considered a big girl?

Bye Bye Winter

I know it’s not Throwback Thursday but I thought I should take a moment to say a very fond farewell to winter.  In case you didn’t know it’s the last full day of winter and I for one am more than happy to go without the polar vortex, frost quakes and ice storms.  So long, winter!  I won’t miss you.

Here are some pics I took during our ice storm.  I was colder than cold but just about the prettiest thing I had ever seen!

Pedi Love!: A Curves And Cake Review

Have you seen the commercial for the new micr o pedi?  I have so, being the sucker advertising that I am, I decided to try it out.  It’s an easy way to give yourself a pedicure at home.  The handheld machine works like that cheese grater thing the spa ladies use to get rid of that dead skin on your feet with.  The big difference is there is no blade! cue the sounds of the angels!  The little hand-held wand basically sands all the dead skin off of your feet in seconds and leaves your feet really smooth and soft.  I’ve been using mine once a week for just over a month and I couldn’t be happier.  They also have a Micr o Pedi man if you’re boo could use a little buffing but isn’t quite into going to the spa.

I would have included a close up pic of my pedi but who wants to look at my feet?!  NOOOBODY!  You’re welcome.

Taking Chances: Supermodel work!

Hey there!  I have to tell you about my latest obsession.  I entered a contest!  If you’ve followed me, @curvesandcake on twitter,  you already know Addition Elle is running their “I love My Genes” campaign.  I’ve never entered a contest before so I had no idea how OCD I would get about checking to see how many votes I had or how many votes the competition had.  In the last week, I haven’t really done much besides solicit votes and watch the numbers grow.  Click the link below if you would like to support me.

Things I’ve learned since entering this contest.   Contests are serious business and people can get really nasty when they feel threatened.  I’ve seen some verbal throw downs on some of the pages that is not only embarrassing but childish for this 18+ set.  I’ve also learned that taking chances is kinda fun.  I’m not sure why I’ve shied away from these things.  It’s  exciting to see who is really rooting for you and how much you can collectively make the numbers move.

So, what’s my end game? That was my Olivia Pope (Scandal) reference for those who don’t watch.  My end game is to put myself out there.  It would be great to win the whole thing, but even if I don’t I know I’ll still feel like I did.  Everyone that has votes so far has been amazingly supportive and a great boost to my ego, plus I’ve had fun doing something I never thought I would. This contest is another check to my bucket list!  Win or lose I’m still taking a chance and moving forward.  Maybe that trip to the Italian countryside should be next?  In the meantime vote for me!
